About the Scarlet Aquatic Club
Program Outline
The purpose of the program is to enable swimmers to have the opportunity to obtain proper coaching and training for all levels of competitive swimming. Swimmers range from novice to Olympic Trials qualifiers. The program is under the direction of Tom Speedling. Qualified assistants also work with the program. The program is held at Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University. Other university pools may be used.
USA Swimming Registration
All swimmers must register with USA Swimming. The fee is included in the check payable to Scarlet Aquatic Club upon registration.
Parents and Spectators
Only swimmers are allowed into the Recreation Center during practice. Parents and siblings are welcome to wait in the Busch Student Center.
Disciplinary Regulations
Any person involved in vandalism, misconduct, or failure to cooperate with the coaches or Recreation Center personnel will be dismissed from the program.
Competition
Swimmers participate in USA Swimming meets according to their ability level and age group. Swimmers in the program may represent Scarlet Aquatic Club. A separate fee is charged to cover entry fees. The fee is $100 for one swimmer and $150 for multiple swimmers. Unused monies are refundable upon request. This fee is not included in registration fees.

Enrollment Limitations
Enrollment in any session may be limited at the discretion of the Head Coach. Application and registration fee will be returned if a swimmer cannot be accommodated. Coaches discretion is the determining factor in placement of swimmers in training groups.
Enrollment Deadline
Registrations for winter programs must be received by September 20.
New Participants
New swimmers should send registration as early as possible. All potential new participants MUST ATTEND two tryout sessions. A limited number of new swimmers can be accepted in the fall.
Basic Training Outline
Swimmers are encouraged to participate in the program year round and to progress to increasingly challenging training groups. The winter season commitment is September through March. Swimmers are grouped both according to ability and age, with ability being the more important consideration. Prior to payment due dates, changes in workout groups can be recommended. All group placements are by coaches recommendation.
Training Groups
Junior 1
This group is for ages 8 and under. Stroke mechanics and introductory competitive swimming are the focuses of this group. The group swims three practices per week for 45 minutes or 1 hour each.
Junior 2
This group is for more experienced swimmers ages 9 and over. The maximum age of Junior 2 swimmers is 12. Swimmers in this group must have competitive experience. Stroke technique and conditioning for competitive swimming are both emphasized. Junior 2 swimmers practice 4 times per week for 1 1/2 hours each.
Senior Prep
This group is for swimmers 11 and over who are ready for the transition from Junior 2 to Senior 1. This group practices 5 times per week. Placement is by recommendation of the Junior 2 coach.
Senior 1A & 1B
This group is for experienced young swimmers with a background of training. Minimum age is 12. All aspects of swimming are emphasized, including dry land training. Senior 1A swimmers train 6 days per week for 2 - 2 1/2 hours each. Senior 1B swimmers train 5 days per week for 1 1/2 - 2 hours each. Recommendation of Senior Prep coach is required.
Senior 2
This is the most intense training group. Minimum age is 13. Swimmers must be committed to training 6 days per week for 2 - 3 hours. Double sessions are also held. Coaches recommendation required.
